Student Artwork: Gustave Cailebotte Copy

Daniels’s painting is a copy of the original work done by Gustave Caillebotte, a 19th-century Impressionist painter. Daniel was working with soft pastels learning the composition of lights from this master work.

His careful attention to detail over three and a half months made him successful in finishing this beautiful work of art. After several days of working on it he told me it was too hard, and he was not sure if he could do it.

I kept guiding him and encouraging him not to give up. He studied books for different techniques and did not give up. His dedication played off. Here is Daniels description of his work: “I felt frustrated and overwhelmed and I wanted to quit in the middle of the project. But I had a reason to finish something that would not let me give up.

It was difficult to finish the project, but worth it.”
